Peter WOLFENDEN Obituary

Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, 19 July 2023, aged 74 years. Dearly loved Husband of Lynette. Loved Father and Father-in-law of JP & Jess. Stepfather and Father-in-law to Kirsten Price, Megan & Andrew Smith and Aaron Price. Poppa Pete to Zoe, Jordan, Mya, Edgar & Albert. Uncle Peter to Rebecca. A celebration of Pete's life will be held at the Horowhenua College Hall, 65 Weraroa Road, Levin, on Thursday, 27 July 2023 at 2.00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to  Search and Rescue (LANDSAR) or St John Ambulance would be appreciated. All messages to the Wolfenden family, C/- 547 Queen St East, Levin.

To Lin and family. Please accept my condolences and heart felt sympathy with the death of Peter. I was so pleased to have the opportunity to talk to Peter in his last days in hospital. He was fully aware of what was happening and among his last words to me was " what will be will be". Thanks Lin for that opportunity to talk to Peter.
With Peters passing there is very few of our generation of Wolfenden´s left.....so sad.

So sad to hear of Peter's passing. I'll always remember him as Mr Outdoor Ed, so full of energy and positive quips. I did a number of memorable school trips skiing and tramping with him. On one trip to Mt Taranaki, the accommodation had been double booked, so we had to squeeze 2 to a bed. Pete slept outside on the trampoline! Halfway up, we met Selwyn Leitch, leading his group down. Pete decided to push on. When we reached the top, the clouds cleared, and the view was stunning. Your faith was rewarded! I'll always picture Peter striding out on an outdoor adventure. I first me Peter (Wolfy) in 1978 as a young teacher starting my career in Levin - He was an inspirational teacher and personality - I learned a great deal from Pete that I have carried through my 40+ years of teaching - Pete and his good mate Selwyn Leitch, were a dynamic duo who provided many many students with learning opportunities well beyond the classroom - to the top of Mt Taranaki, Mt Ruapehu and beyond. I spent many happy days with Pete as a teaching colleague and skiing Mt Ruapehu - he was an amazing man who gave so much of his life to his students and friends - a sad day today hearing of Pete's passing - a life well lived for a such a positive, cheerful, energetic and thoughtful man - Go Well Pete - regards and deepest thoughts Peter Jamieson

Condolences to the family, on the loss of Peter who was a cheerful person and good teacher, the boys loved going on outdoor school trips with him. I enjoyed chats on the roadside when he was walking the dog. We will all miss him. RIP Peter

Peter was a quality colleague who I treasured working with at Horowhenua College. He was a vibrant, positive and cheerful personality. He was an enthusiastic, passionate classroom teacher but he also was effective in taking education beyond the classroom. Peter shared his love of the outdoors with so many students. He also challenged them to move beyond their comfort zone in the outdoors and with his encouragement they did. Personally, Peter was always supportive and encouraging and the positive way he related to colleagues and students was a fantastic example to me. My sincere sympathy to Lynette and his family at this time of loss.
