I am deeply sorry to hear about the death of Professor Paul Van Moeseke. I would like to express my sincere condolences to his son and to all people close to him. I was his student and his assistant at the University of Louvain in the seventies. I remember him as a distinguished economist and inspiring teacher and as a very kind man with an enormous courage. May he rest in peace.

My deepest regrets. I remember him very well when he returned to Belgium in the sixties and "forgot" his mother language. I was a young secretary at CORE, Louvain, Belgium.

The New Zealand Association of Economists regrets the loss of a major New Zealand economist. Prof van Moeseke will be remembered for his contributions to the University of Otago and Massey University, and to the study of asset models under risk conditions and other game theoretic models. He was a powerful voice for economic rationality, particularly in his opposition to the proposed aluminium smelter at Aramoana in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
