A generous, kind colleague and superb scholar who will be very sadly missed.

I knew Pat as a philatelist and met him a number of times when I was visiting New Zealand from the UK. He was always very generous with his time, and I sensed that he took great pride in looking after New Zealand's philatelic archives and helping researchers like me find what we were looking for. I am sure that many of my fellow members of the New Zealand Society of Great Britain will have similar fond memories of Pat and his invaluable work for New Zealand philately.

Pat was a gentleman as well as a scholar.
Courtney Johnson paid a beautiful tribute to him at the launch of Te Papa´s new book Flora last night.
We all had tears in our eyes thinking about his collegiality sharing his knowledge.
We are thinking of you all at this very sad time.
