There are a lot of ideas about what the true purpose of life is. Some believe we're on this planet to make as many friends as we can or to make as much money as possible. Some think that we need to accomplish something that will leave a legacy and some think that the best legacy a person can leave is their family.

No matter what you believe the purpose of life to be, one thing that will help you to succeed is if you approach life as something to be enjoyed. Talking with family the past week and hearing many of the stories about him, it's very clear that Neville was somebody who not only enjoyed life but also helped the people around him enjoy life too.

They say that you don't truly enjoy life until you realise how short it can be. Although Neville had lived a full, enjoyable life, in some ways, after his cancer diagnosis is when he really embraced life in a new way. He and Alison plus family members including my mother traveled the States frequently to most corners and those spots in between. They hit the bucket list

I will always remember him with that cheeky mischievous smile knowing all the time there was a practical joke on the way, he was so like Pop in many ways. I spent a lot of time with him at the family farm in Oakura when I was growing up which was always fun and something I always looked forward too.

I was fortunate to spend a lot of time with I'm last year whilst dealing with my own problems, he always took an interest, participated and listened. He respected me for who I was and I respected him for that.

I had the pleasure of seeing him a few weeks ago here in Palmerston North, his smile was as still radiant as ever. I love you and will miss you. Your job is done we have got it from here. Rest in Peace.
