It was with considerable sadness that I learnt of Murray's recent passing. He & I first "polished boots" together in 1974 as 2GH/2FH medics,& we went on to attend diverse weekends & NZ wide annual camps (including Tonga 1978). Somewhere I'll have photos of him during this era. Although not -ahem- of Murray's military calibre,I commended his enthusiasm & (as transpired) subsequent career passage to WO.
Wife Carol & I remained friendly with Murray during the late 1970s & recall tales from his Egyptian Embassy & Rotorua thermal shutdown "civi" career(s),& of his family's Rokfire battery firm. Hectic family lives & moves meant we lost touch in the 1980s however.
Occasional location attempts in recent years had been fruitless,as no big city phone books or electoral rolls listed him - I regret not considering the Kapiti Coast nor contacting Trentham Camp.
By chance however Murray's big ship fascination came to mind during the recent 2018 Wahine 50th,& (fittingly) an ANZAC Day Google featured his gripping account of the 1968 disaster => http://www.thewahine.co.nz/
Sadly however my follow up was not prompt enough...
My heartfelt condolences to his family for one taken too soon. Stan. (L759907)
