Died peacefully at home on Sunday, September 20, 2015. Aged 88 years. Most dearly loved husband of Annabel. Much loved father and father-in-law of Anna and David, Nicki, Andrew and Pam, Richard and Melanie, Sarah and Miguel, Philip and Kathryn. Loved Grandpa of Philippa, Andrew, Guy, Rupert, Michael, Alice, Rachel, Mathew, Alex, Elliott, Sarah, Thomas and Elisa and Great-grandpa Grumps of Felix, Penelope, Libby and Georgie. A service for Michael will be at Old St Pauls, Mulgrave St , Wellington, Friday September 25, 2015 at 2.00pm. No flowers by request but donations to Mary Potter Hospice would be appreciated.

My heartfelt & sincere condolences to Dr Shackleton & his family. As a 16yr old Cancer pt in Dunedin, I was an enigma for him & his team due to the rarity of it. He was kind, gentle and treated me with dignity..an unseen behaviour in those days..I remember his voice, calming & convincing that I will be ok..he was right, for all those years later I am still here & in the medical profession..Rest in Peace Dr Shackleton,you were truly one of a kind..
