Over 32 years ago Mike helped us to have our surviving twins (out of five) to make our family complete. He was always very caring and no matter when we bumped into him he always remembered us and greeted us with a hug and enquiry on how the family were. My sister also had the pleasure of Mike's expertise when she had her daughter. Our deepest sympathy for your loss of this lovely man.

I just learnt that Mike passed away recently. He was my gynecologist for many years, highly respected and entrusted with my well-being. I will miss his counsel. My deepest condolences to his family.

I am in shock and saddened to hear of Mikes passing ... Mike delivered my first baby nearly 35 years ago and also operated on me a number of times since then . infact he may have saved my life thru one of my operations ... Mike was such a caring man, had such a wonderful gentleman bedside manner and someone I could fully trust ... He was always reassuring... I am grateful for this man.

Mike was the only doctor who found my ovarian cist when I was fifteen. He was the only doctor who fully understood my condition and was so kind, caring and knowledgeable. If it wasn't for him, I expect I wouldn't be as healthy as I am today and I am forever grateful for him

Mr Laney was my surgeon 8 years ago. He was a true gentleman, caring in every way.

We are so sorry to hear of Mike's passing and we are sorry to have missed his funeral. He delivered all my three children and I always felt so comfortable and calm in his care. Of course he also worked closely with my Uncle John Doig for many years. They will get up to mischief together up there I am sure. All our condolences and thoughts are with you at this time.

Dear Monica, I never met Michael but have been referring patients to him since I moved to Wanaka from Wgtn as a medical practitioner 18mths ago... without exception everyone I referred to him, commented on his wonderful manner and expertise and were hugely grateful for his services.. I wish I had met him, he will be hugely missed...I heard about his passing from a patient today whom he'd operated on only 2wks ago and spoke of what a wonderful man he was...with much love to you and your family...

I was very shocked and saddened to hear of Micheal Laneys sudden passing he was a great man who saved many lives including mine.

I was so shocked to hear of the passing of Mike. He was my Oncologist Gynocologist when first diagnosed with Cancer 6 years ago now. He was a brilliant surgeon and aftercare specialist who I was so grateful and blessed to have caring for me over those years. Thanks to him I was declared Cancer free and his words were "you're healed now, go and enjoy life". Sending thoughts and prayers to all his family at this extremely sad time for you all. He will be such a loss to the Medical profession and those that knew him so well.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Mike for 12 years at St Georges Maternity when I was a newly graduated midwife and he was a fairly new private obstetrician. I will never forget his amazing smile, his enthusiasm and confidence. He is sadly missed from many circles.

You will all know that you have an amazing husband, father and grandfather. Mike safely saw me through 3 pregnancies and was the most outstanding of Doctors for our daughter Abby, who has endured over 16 surgical procedures for Endometriosis with Mike. He was an incredible advocate for women suffering from endometriosis and in the earlier days when this disease was starting to become more widely understood he was one of the pioneers in New Zealand. On Abby you performed intricate procedures that many of your colleagues couldn't believe could be done. Rest in peace - you have been taken way too soon. Our heartfelt thoughts and wishes to all of Mike's family, friends and colleagues. I'm sorry Julian and I can't be there today but we wish you a wonderful celebration of Mike's life.

Working with Mike as part of the Gynae-Oncology Team at Christchurch Women's was a wonderful experience. He will be greatly missed.

A true gentleman and a brilliant surgeon. Mike always had a smile and made his patients feel at ease. Rest easy love man.

I still can't believe the news!! :( This time last year you were about to operate on me for the 5th time!..I never had to worry or fret.. you always made the process such a smooth and reassuring one! I was shocked and saddened to hear of Michael's passing. My consultant and surgeon for 10yrs, 6 surgeries. He was kind, honest and gentle. He would often talk about either his last trip to see his children and grandchildren, or the next upcoming trip. Always a smile when talking about his family.
My thoughts are with you all. And to Michael, a true pioneer who made the world a better place and changed the lives of so many, thank you. Rest in peace dear man.

I really liked Mike for lots of reasons: He was a pioneering scientist, he always took care to be interested in the person he was talking to, he had a wicked sense of humour, he was generous with his time and skill at the Charity Hospital, he was a stylish man, and he lived life fully. Mike a wonderful caring man ... always there for me they years of medical problems then helped Rob and I produce our beautiful Chelsea 37 years ago. You trained with Rob and did the Coast to Coast together many years ago ... the laughs we had at dinners around the table at ours on Scarborough Hill ... never be forgotten Mike your smile always lit up the room or wherever you were.

Mike was an amazing man with a great sense of humour and a first class womens health professional. Christchurch was very fortunate to have him with his high level of skill and expertise. He brought our children into the world and came back into one of their lives recently when they were in need. He worked alongside my husband for many years and was a valued colleague. We are all so sad that he did not get to enjoy the long happy retirement he deserved. Our sincere condolences to Mikes family and thank you for sharing such a wonderful and talented man with us.
