Thanks, Kerrie, for the opportunity this morning to remember Mike, to share thoughts with former colleagues from his NIWA and DSIR days, and to learn some things about Mike that we didn't know beforehand. Croquet, cycling and scuba enthusiast who would have thought! We both have fond and lasting memories going back to PPD and to his arrival at FRD.

Kerrie,
So sad to hear about Mike.
He was a great genuine guy and easy to talk and joke with as a work mate. My lads also meet him when he taught Croquet at Muritai school and anyone who can enthuse primary school kids about croquet such that they talk about it to their parents positively unprompted has to have a big personality.
So sorry I can't make it tomorrow as we sold Days Bay and moved to Nelson several years ago.
All his ex colleagues I have talked to only had good words to say about him.
lots of love
Alan

Dear Kerrie - my condolences at the loss of Mike. He was a lovely person, a great editor, and we had a nice long working history until his retirement from MAF then NIWA. He certainly helped me out many times with me scientific writing and where to pop those semi-colons! Kia kaha, Di

Ian Brooking, Kerrie loves this photo and I've just 'stolen' it for the photo slideshow on Wednesday. Michael pontificating .... with a background which has never changed!
I'm Janet, Kerrie and Mike's housemate and I am going to miss this Yorkshireman terribly.

Sorry to hear about Mike, Kerrie. Far too soon! He was a well-liked colleague in my early days at Plant Physiology Division - so well liked that he was invited to my first wedding, along with Ken Giles ( a right couple of scallywags!). My sincere condolences and best wishes, Ian.
