This is a very belated condolence. I used to teach both Liam and Lucy piano in the 1980s. Liam had co-ordination difficulties so I got him on to musical appreciation which he enjoyed. he struck me as a very perceptive and empathetic young man.

Lucy
Our family send our love and thoughts to you and your family following the tragic loss of your brother Liam. Lucy, we are reminded of your sensitive handling of Stefan's death in 1997. Hannah and Sam have happy memories of Liam at Kristin and on the Devonport school bus.

Fond memories of the Waikato Student Union days in the 1990s and studying with Liam. Then many times we crossed paths in Wellington with the same involvement with politics and journalism. I so loved Liam's effervescent personality and his good will. He lived life in full with disability and never complained. He showed us all how to live simply and with intention. Sorry I missed your memorial service this morning, but I am watching the St Pauls service tonight. Rest in peace my friend. I know you'll be directing the conversation among your mates in heaven, on the day of this years general election.

First friend I made when I moved to Wellington. A beautiful soul...now a beautiful angel.

I'll miss you mate

The polished Docs or green Chucks, brown leather or blue denim jacket, jeans, topped off by the smile, full face, and thumbs up (very rarely gave me the thumbs down for a bad day - just job rejections) Every now and again an observant radical comment on society amongst the chit chat

Your daily visits to Smart Newtown to get online for email and Facebook, for your CV and cover letters I've still got your CV etc because you kept losing your USB stick

You picked up the litter wherever you walked so much the Council should have paid you

Rest in Peace Liam

My thoughts are with his family and friends

Regular customer of Zoo Park Dairy, who used to make frequent trips to our shop because our 1.5L L&P bottles were the cheapest. Always polite and a delight to talk to. Saddened to hear Newtown has lost him, he was a valued member of our community

I´ll always remember Liam for his cheerfulness, bright smile and graciousness. He lived his life with characteristic good humour and grace in adversity. We studied politics together at Waikato University. He was a lovely and true friend, and I was lucky enough to have through the years til now.

Rest in Peace Liam.

Newtown used to be my stomping ground and I would often see you around.
We never spoke, but each time I saw you, you would give me a shy smile. You struck me as warm and genuine.
After moving across Wellington, you would pop into my thoughts and when passing through Newtown I'd keep an eye out for you.
I, like so many people, are devastated as to what happened.
No doubt, you will continue pop into my thoughts over time and through habit I will keep an eye out for you in Newtown, only sadly now, I know I won't see you.
Safe travels on your next journey and please know the lasting impression you left on people.

Attend Waikato uni at the same time as Liam. He was always smiling and had such a positive outlook on life no matter what - it was contagious and uplifted us when we felt down. Very sad to read the news from Sydney ;(

My deepest thoughts and sympathies are with his family, friends and loved ones at the very sad time.
Liam was such a gentle kind hearted man. I met him in the first days of arriving at Loafer's Lodge. He was so friendly and sweet. I was having issues with the side door and he helped me out. I recall him giving me all the tips and tricks about the building, where his room was and that if I ever needed a movie night he was the go to man with his extensive collection. There was always laughter, chatter and smiles when Liam was about and he quite often joined me on walks and travels around Newtown. Often they were down to the petrol station at night to see if he could get a good deal on any hot pies that were still left or to Pizza Hutt for a pizza special deal. He always offered to help anyone and everyone in need. His heart was so generous warm and genuine and he will forever be apart of our wee Loafers Lodge family. you couldn't really have a bad day in Liam presence as just his smile would brighten you up. Rest in piece Liam, in your shining DOC Martins (always the high light when he got a new pair from his sister) A very much loved and missed, beautiful man by many x

Once i was doing my walk at dark and with relief i encountered Liam on my route, he had walked all the way to pak n save to get his dinner. (i was surprised it wasn't butter chicken and noticed that he didn't have a bottle of pepsi) He slowed down to my pace, and walked and talked me all the way home. Even though i probably would've had to save him if anyone tried anything, i was grateful for his company. Doc Martens <3 brown leather jacket <3 pepsi <3 butter chicken <3 dvd collection <3 messy room <3. Always cheerful and smiley, always talkative and always kind. RIP Liam. Aroha xox
