Rosemary Cole - whanau/an extended family member
November 19, 2022
My deepest condolences, as Catherine has just informed of Lesley`s recent death.
Although my whanau connection to Lesley and the Bagnalls may seem tenuous, it`s longterm. Lesley`s grandparents, John & Dorothy Pascoe and my parents, Joyce and Tom Ross, used to tramp together ages ago. For one long tramp, all the kids were minded at Mahina Bay by 2 Karitane Nurses; Big Mummy and Little Mummy. That`s when I would have first met Lesley.
Contact was kept up by parents, then by kids. Alan and Charles caught opossums for the skins and meat. When Dora introduced me to opossum stew, I was no longer squeamish. Through Lesley, I`d learned opossums were an invasive bush pest and not big eyed cuteness.
Also, Lesley taught me to spin. Whenever I wore that jersey, I thought of her. Now that homespun wool jersey will be a taonga.
I`m not sure that I can make Lesley`s tangi, as I would have just been discharged from hospital after an operation. However, I`ll be thinking of Lesley and her whanau.
Sincere Sympathies,
Rosemary Cole, nee Ross
