Keith FLINDERS Obituary

Loved son of Ken and Joan and brother and brother-in-law of Sharon and the late Fred Maynard, was born in London in 1947. He grew up mainly in Gisborne and sadly passed away suddenly in Wellington on 11 November 2023 where he lived for 50 years. He is loved and greatly missed by his family, his step-mother and close friend Annie Flinders and his many other kind and beautiful friends, including the Chun family and June and Kirsten Wong. As Keith requested, a private cremation has been held. Time to remember Keith is planned for when his ashes are placed at Karori Cemetery, Wellington. Those who knew him will remember him for his loyalty and sincerity with a love of genealogy leaving behind a legacy of documented family connections and considered opinions on a number of topics with a willingness to share them. Let not your heart be troubled That's what I've always heard But I stood for what I believed in With these my final words

Thoroughly saddened to learn that Keith has passed away.

Keith provided me with a lot of help and support when I first started out with genealogy back in 2010. Sadly, we never met in person, but he was always a delight to email regarding all things Flinders. He was exceptionally knowledgeable, and had a good sense of humour to boot.

R.I.P. Keith, you'll be dearly missed.

I am shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Keith's passing. I knew something was wrong when we did not get our annual Christmas greeting from him. I am a distant cousin on the Flinders side, living in Canada. We had corresponded for years after he helped me with our family history. Through him I realized we were (very distantly) related to Captain Matthew Flinders). He was such an interesting fellow..always took the time to correspond and update me on the year's happenings. To his family and friends, please accept my wife and my deepest condolences. I will miss him. I would love to hear from any close family about his passing and any tributes. Keith, I will miss our chit-chat re detective work, family history discoveries detailed theories and conversations via email immensely. You've encouraged me in my research since 2005, when I was a mere inexperienced novice. I'm going to miss our winter time (NZ season) queries chat back and forth in the morning. I will miss you so much my NZ friend, RIP Keith. Love Jan Tivey & Family, UK.

Keith was the Society webmaster since early 2020. He always had so much passion for the work he did updating our site and adding content to ensure it could be accessible and engaging. Keith, you were always so kind, and keen to engage with us about the Society and the history of Karori. You really will be missed.

Keith was our long time Karori neighbour, friend, and colleague. A man of great common sense, robustly held opinions, and strong sense of community. A man of integrity and professionalism in his work. A loyal and supportive friend to his many friends. A man cats were comfortable to be around (this is high praise and confirmation - cats know)

Very sad to hear of Keith's passing. I was fortunate to have caught up with my cousin Keith back in December 2019.
My thoughts are with Sharon and the family at this sad time.
