I met Karen and Bayley around September 2020, through rock hunting/hiding and painting.
We met up at Aotea Lagoon many times and would walk and talk and usually it was Karen that had heaps of rocks to hide. I like that she was so methodical, hiding each rock, then taking a photo of the hiding place to put up on the Facebook page.
We messaged rock business back and forth on Messenger a lot and she talked of her parents, her nieces, the RDA and her work .....
Sometimes I would drop a special rock in her letter box and other times she would paint a rock just for me. Sometimes we kept rocks we had found because we knew that the other person would like it.
One time my son painted a rock and she wanted to find it, but someone else found it first, so I got him to paint her another one similar. It's a bit weird, I'll post a photo of it.
She was very very generous with the amount of rocks she painted and put out into the world.
I haven't walked at the Lagoon for quite some time as I have been caring for my elderly parents.
I started up again recently and would continually look for Karen and Bayley, I had a turtle ornament for her. It was only recently that someone mentioned her sudden death in the rock hunting group, I was shocked and found it hard to believe.
To all the family, I am so sorry for your loss, Karen was a lovely lady and I shall miss her gentle company and enthusiasm for life.
