Joyce was an amazing person whom I had the privilege of knowing & speaking to her on monthly basis for last 10 years. She was always more concerned with my health than hers & she would always make me chuckle with her favourite saying when I asked after her "Don't raise the Flag to half mast yet!" I was honoured to be at her 100th Birthday, meeting some of her family & friends. I will so miss your chirpy, cheerful voice & our monthly chats Joyce.

Joy was a very dear friend, for over 70 years, to Eric, Joan, Sandra(Anderson) and Paul Shadlock. I am the daughter, Sandra and live in Auckland. I was able to visit Joy on her 99th birthday and felt very privileged to attend Joys 100th birthday. I will miss our telephone calls. Joy was so positive and very interested in my family.

For my Mum Betty , Joy was more than a friend .Joy was a reason to get up in the morning for a `yo hoo `visit .Or have a lengthy conversation on the phone .Honestly Mum was like a teen again .They spoke every day .And along with Mary and Janet Mums other besties ,they were quite the team .She touched 3 generations of McMillans ,myself and my son Flynn .We just loved spending time with her ,she was so cheeky and clever at the same time .
When Mums dimensia journey began we would visit Joy and they would just sit holding hands and Joy would nurture Mum as conversation was limited but they still connected .We send our love to the family and friends You will be sadly missed Joy and I hope your both having a cuppa .Alan McMillan .

Joy and I met on the train going to work - over 40 years ago. Then my parents met them about the time she married Doug - who was a lovely man also. Joy was always cheerful and grateful for her family and friends - who cared for her in many ways - especially when she didn't have the best health - as she has been house bound for many years. She was always interested in what you had been doing - and how your family was. You had to book in to visit her - they were such popular people - and you always came away feeling blessed to have them in your life. - Wendy R and family
