My wife and I met Jeff and Joy when they were in Canada for a wedding. After the wedding they had rented a truck and camper and were touring around the various provinces on their way to Vancouver before flying home to Tauranga. They come to Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta. They has travelled up to Cameron Lake and were walking around the shoreline to where I was fishing for trout. We started talking about fishing and I suggested to Jeff if he could get a fishing rod I had plenty of lures he could use. Next day they came back up, Jeff with a licence and fishing rod, but did not have any luck catching any.
I fish up at that site every day so I took the two fish I caught to Jeff at his campsite where my wife and I had a good visit with them. Before they headed to Vancouver they told me if I ever got back to visit my sister In NSW we should make a side trip and head over to NZ and visit them.
In 2007 we did travel to AUS and made the trip to Auckland then headed over to Tauranga to visit them. We did not Find them at the address I had so we headed back to Auckland then flew back to NSW and my sister to spend the next two months there before heading home. It was not until then and thru an email from Joy that we learned that Jeff has passed away. Two years later we travelled back to Auckland and visited Joy at her son's home and she spent the day with us being a our tour guide. Jeff and Joy were a remarkable couple and we very much appreciate and consider ourselves very lucky to have met them and spent the time with them
Our condolences the family. I have no doubt that they will miss them both very much as they were a remarkable couple.
Take care

So sad to hear of Joy's sudden death. I remember all of you when you lived across the road from the Dillon family in Alexander St, Tauranga. Joy was such a dynamic lady and Jeff had such a wicked sense of humour. My condolences to you all. May Joy now rest in love and peace again with Jeff. Maryanne Richardson (nee Gooch).

A little `pocket rocket´ of a tennis player. We were on Tauranga Lawn tennis club committees, interclub teams, enjoyed a tennis trip in and around Australia in 2006, she was so much fun. On her visits to Tauranga, always caught up with Joy along with other tennis friends. I shall cherish the happy memories.

Dearest Joy
I first remember you from the days when I started playing tennis. You were this lovely delicate looking lady who packed a punch. It was always fun to play alongside you and against you over many many years. I remember the fun we had playing interclub. your serve and volley play use to terrorize our opponents. I used to enjoy watching you be this warrior at the net while I cover the baseline.
We had so much fun and laughs over those years. I will always carry these memories with me. We are so sad to loose you. My thoughts are with your family during this incredibly sad times.
My deepest sympathies are with you all.
love

Joy was such a fabulous friend and teammate who
will be sorely missed. She was a keen and competitive tennis player which is where we all met up - Kohi tennis. Over the years we had some great social and (lets get serious) interclub games. We missed her when she moved to Christchurch but kept in touch on her many trips back to Auckland to visit family. Joy always made time for her friends. Even through Covid restrictions and travel bans Joy stayed in touch with everyone by email or text. We loved her to bits and just can't believe she is gone.
Our heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences go out to the family. xo
