Uncle Joe and my dad Harry as boys and young men were very close like peas in a pod and did everything together - horse riding, boxing, softball. Uncle Joe stepped up when their dad passed away in 1940 and helped his younger brother find his way in life and helped Harry get his first paper run. Both served their time as Motor Mechanics worked together at the PNT. They also enjoyed a Flagon or two together when they could.
Uncle Joe was a family comes first man, always happy and very generous - for me as a young child/teenager going to Uncle Joes and Aunty Merle´s place in Pretoria Street for a family catch up was always a very memorable occasion - they really knew how to make you feel welcome.
RIP Uncle Joe your character and kindness has left a permanent impression on us.
