To Rose and family
I was very lucky to have John as one of my primary school teachers for 2 years at South End School. It was in his class that I learnt how to play chess and went on my 1st tramp up Mt Holdsworth. I still have great memories of those years. In later years we met as adults and it was my children that he taught a few mean chess moves to. The memories that you hold dear to you will never fade with time. He was a man with an interest in all he came in contact with.

If I had more courage, I would have spoken at the open mic. During the service, I realised how many of my values have come from the influence of one person. Some subtle, as if by osmosis.

Mary's story was beautiful and poetic. I spend time with my grandsons listening, learning, taking in the smells and magic of our wilderness. Listening to the wind in the trees, looking for fairies. What a wonderful teacher who can shape a child to take their best qualities into the future.

I never gave my choices of sport a second thought, but it seems cricket and hockey is too coincidental.

Thank you, for everything you did for me and my family. You made the world a better place.

So much love to Rosemary, your beautiful children and grandies.

Team Newton, what a team!! Mr Newton was one of those teachers who mad a very big impact on my life and aught me some great life lessons on how to be the best you could be, and feel good about it. He went above and beyond his duties as a teacher by ensuring my sister, who was in hospital, did not fall behind in her school work, despite going through a near death experience and needing heart surgery.
He sat with her and afterwards when recovering, this continued meaning that she and I could continue to be in the same classes throughout college. This meant the world to both of us.
A bond was again created some years later and is still in place with the close friendship of Sarah, and Rosemary.
Fond memories will always be had, a smile will always grow, and a heart will always be warm when thinking of such a humble man.
Deepest sympathy to the Newton Families.

The more you love the more you grieve. Daddy we are grief stricken.
Whilst we are relieved you are at last free of your disease we have been robbed of a Husband, Dad and Pater by 20 years.
Your love, gentleness, knowledge and compassion will live on in little bits of all of us. You won't be forgotten Dad and we will wrap our arms tightly around each other and get through this incredibly hard time together as a family.

I'm truly sorry to hear of Mr Newtons passing. He was the best teacher that anybody could ever ask for. I can not find the words to express how special he was to not only me, but many fellow pupils. He was inspirational, passionate and caring beyond his duty, and a very important influence in my life.

My Dad
Got lost in the mist
He was scared
And sad
And cold
He was so brave
Then one day he just floated away
With a cheeky grin

Very sorry to hear of the passing of one my teachers and great personal influencers from way back in the days at Paraparaumu Beach. He taught us more than the subjects, introduced me to hockey and the wilderness and showed me there was a path to somewhere great. My love and thoughts go out to Rosemary and the family of this very special man Mr Newtown as we always called him. A Totara has fallen from our forest. Steve Symonds X
