My Deepest sympathy to the Kerswell family. Roger was a quiet, thoughtful Master Mariner who gave much of his free time, from his Pilotage duties at the Port of Wellington, to training youth in the art of sailing at the Britannia Sea Scout Group. Fair winds and calm seas to you Roger. Your valuable contribution will be missed.

Very sad news to hear of the passing of Captain Roger Kerswill. I was a Wellington harbour pilot with Roger during his last 21 years prior to his retirement in 2001. Along with his dry sense of humour he was a first class seaman and ship handler. His softly spoken yet firm voice, would have reassured all in the most extreme conditions that can be experienced in Wellington. I feel privileged to have been tutored by him and known him. My sincere condolences to all the Kerswill family. Rest in Peace Roger

Dear Jenna, Chris and Kerswill family,
We were very sorry to hear of Roger's passing. My late husband Paddy Leahy worked with him as master of the pilot launch in Wellington. They were good shipmates for many years.

We have fond memories of Roger.
He has had a positive influence over many, many people through his unstinting service to Britannia Sea Scouts. He was a superior and professional seaman in his loved vocation of ships and the sea.
