Still have great memories of you educating us in the finer points of real estate. Still use the 'war stories'

It´s nearly 45 years since our family moved to the school house in Donlin Road and met the Gilbert family. We became good friends and I have some great memories of times we spent together
John proved to be valuable mentor to myself and my sons who began careers in real estate . I reflect back on the support, advice and encouragement he freely gave
John, you will be missed
Thinking of you all at this sad time

John Gilbert a real estate legend and a born salesman! A gifted businessman who inspired others! I hope you´re enjoying an "open home" in Heaven!

There are many memories of shared family time either at one of the many Surf Lifesaving regattas where John and my Dad were competing together for Titahi Bay Surf Lifesaving Club, or at your home in Pukerua Bay, sliding down hills on cardboard and the many parties. But the most memorable for me was many years later, the night I fell asleep at the wheel and I woke up after hitting the crosswalk post on Mana Esplanade, in the wee hours of the morning and John was the first on the scene. He checked I was OK and had me sit in his car whilst he called my parents to let them know I was OK. John waited until just before the Police arrived. It turned out I only had a severe concussion, so I have always felt very, very lucky and appreciated John's care and concern.
Wishing Brent, Tony, Kerry, Nicole, Anna, Demelza and your families my deepest condolences. He was one of a kind. Love, Light and Hugs, Pip XO

I first met John and his family when I moved to Donlin Rd, Pukerua Bay as a college kid in 1979 and I found John such an inspiration that I decided at age 17 that I was going to become a real estate agent and I worked for John at Tudor Real Estate - they were great times! John was an absolute real estate legend - an incredible leader, motivator, trainer, auctioneer and entrepreuner and simply a great guy to be around. I attribute much of the success I have had in my own career to everything I learned from John - he will be sadly missed. Condolences to Brent, Tony, Kerry, Nicole, Anna and Demelza. R.I.P John

A real legend and such an inspiration to many of us.
A man full of fun, mischief and someone who just loved a good time.
Sad to think of the world without him in it.
Thinking, of his beautiful family and those who he was close to, condolences to you all.
While it´s been a long time since I have seen him, my memories of him are with fondness.
Hugs to you all Karyn Askew
