In his role as Inspector of Firearms at Police National HQ John was extremely supportive and helpful in guiding the path of the New Zealand Pistol Association in a way that has seen the association grow into a dynamic and exciting sport. I was the Administration Officer at the time and John was always available to give advice and I personally credit him with opening the doors for our sport for which I was always very appreciative. So sorry to hear of John's passing so long after the event and my sincere condolences to his family.

John added common sense and normality in his bushcraft role with MSC. He was a pleasure to work with in my capacity of Admin Officer for Southland Branch.

It is with great sadness that I learn of John's passing. He and I were colleagues with MSC and had many hours of fun together and achieved much for the safety of outdoor recreation. His passing is well before his time and my deepest condolences to Stephanie and the family. Rest in peace John and I will walk with you again amongst the mists of time.

Dam shame.
As an MSC instructor and later in his retirement I hugely appreciated his enthusiasm, thoughts and wisdom.
Always good for a yarn and a cuppa.
The sounds of bellbird and cicadas on St Arnaud summer evening have lost a great fan.

Left too soon. A true kiwi outdoorsman with a wealth of knowledge. Will miss the yarns about the old days. I'm sure his values he lived by will continue through his three outstanding children and loving wife Stephanie. Thinking of you all at this time. Looking forward to saluting you John with some MKVII given to me by Uncle Robin.
Love from Jonathan, Karina, Hannah and Zach Coote.
