Our Aroha and condolences to Yvonne and all the whanau.. what a precious man Ps John was to us. Getting to know him way back in July 1974 in Gisborne. He was our foundation minister who loved unconditionally, challenged us always to serve our Lord.. our middle sons middle name was named after him.. he was always an inspiration.. we have not lived in the same places for many years but more or less kept in touch. Paul and I have been senior Pastors here in Kawerau for 32 years and are now in a time of transition into retirement.. we remember the many lunches and the fresh scones shared around their table. Once again Aroha to all the Whanau... well done dear John....

I have such fond memories of John in my late teens early 20s. Living in their granny flat I spent many evenings with Yvonne and John, doing life.

Along with Yvonne, he helped me navigate the tricky aspects of new faith in God and working through denomination differences.

He was my rescuer when unwanted suitors came to my door, I watched him as he dealt with difficult people, with a calm gentle manner. I definitely learnt a lot from him.

He was very patient with me in my grumpy times and was always good to bring a smile.

All the Ashton kids welcomed me into their family, it´s so good to still call you friends.

Love and hugs to you all.
Julie
