Joe GIBBS Obituary
Service No 4214095, RNZAF, (Pacific) 1939 – 1945.
Peacefully on 20 August 2016, in his 92nd year at Wanganui Hospital. Beloved husband of the late Moira Frances (nee Jago). Loved and respected father and father-in-law of Gerry, Jo, Irene, Maureen (Gibbs) & Tom (Nesser).
Cherished Poppa of Josh, Mark, Laura, Brady, Kelsi & Abs (Ander) & Mareesha. In lieu of flowers, donations to St Vincent de Paul would be appreciated and may be left in the Chapel Foyer. All messages Gibbs Family, C/- P.O. Box 341, Wanganui. The family would like to sincerely thank the Medical and Surgical teams at Wanganui Hospital especially the Nursing Staff of CCU for the wonderful job they have done since 3rd August looking after Joe.
A soldier/warrior until the end.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Chapel, Jane Winstone Village, 49 Oakland Ave, Wanganui on Tuesday, 23 August at 1.30 p.m to be followed by interment at the Aramoho Lawn Cemetery. The family extend an invitation to join them for Rosary for Joe at the Family Home, 14 Kelsi St, Wanganui on Monday Evening at 7.00 p.m.

I remember not so many years ago Joe creating awe and mirth by casually overpowering a strong young co-worker at Government Life in a mock fight that lasted all of 3 or 4 seconds. I think his goodness and kindness were like that too, not on display, but quickly there when needed.. Joe and Moira were a good match, and have surely left behind many sore hearts.

On Wednesday I visited the cemetery. On Tuesday, I had found the burial particulary hard going, but was so glad I went back on Wednesday. I found visiting you together, Mum & Dad gave me a very special sense of peace and beauty. Dad, I hope you are proud of the farewell we gave you. RIP Mum & Dad.

All the lads of the OFC (Whanganui Founding Branch) have lost a pillar of rugby wisdom with Joe's passing, watching important rugby games without him now will not be the same, but no doubt, Joe's rugby comments will stay with them forever. RIP Joe Gibbs
