I got to know Hadyn while he was heading up the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors (NZIS). Hadyn was instrumental in developing the partnership between Surveyors and the New Zealand Geospatial Industry.

Oh dear Jan, Rachel and Hannah. I am so so sad and sorry to hear this awful news about Hadyn, who is gone far too soon. A man so full of life, energy and love for you all. He only recently told me how much you were enjoying being grandparents Jan.
The time we all spent together in Timaru was just the best fun, and I´m so grateful for it.
Sending you all much aroha as you grieve wonderful Hadyn. Miri xx

Dear Jan, Rachel and Hannah. I just cannot believe this and have only stumbled across it. We had so many laughs [and drinks] together in Timaru and I'll never forget the support both of you showed me. I did enjoy taking the piss about him getting the washing in and his acid washed jeans etc etc - you know what I mean Jan. Miri and I cried when you left Timaru.

We met Hadyn through Softball and he became a long-term friend prior to his meeting Jan.
Janelle was working in the Editorial section of the Otago Daily Times at nights and Jan was one of the Reporters. Jan would come back after the late checks with the Police and speak of this nice Policeman while Lee was speaking to Hadyn at softball and he was telling Lee about this nice Reporter. The rest you know.
Hadyn became a part of our family for a few weeks following his back operation and created many laughs in the household, especially when eating his meals from his special table setting on top of the fridge. Our young sons looked up to him and learned a huge respect for the Police through him.
Over the many years since, Lee and Hadyn have had regular catch-ups and chat sessions covering sport, families and happenings and all involved hearty laughter.
We will always remember Hadyn as a fibrant and trusted friend and we were privileged to journey through his adult life with him and his family.
Our thoughts are with Jan and the family as life's journey continues. Take care.

We were so lucky to have Hadyn coach our sons first year of softball this year, and we loved meeting Hadyn & Jan. Thank you Hadyn for giving the PK under 9´s such a cool softball experience, your enthusiasm and kindness was so appreciated.
Much love to Hannah, Ben and all the family. After hearing of Hadyn´s life today there is no doubt he will be sorely missed.

Really shocked to hear that Hadyn has gone, especially as he was a figure so full of life and energy. I got the opportunity to work with Hadyn in a number of his recent roles, but especially valued our time together working closely on the NZ Spatial Excellence Awards where I looked forward to our meetings as Hadyn always brought ideas, energy, humor, (and stories!). He was a great person to have in our team and our work community and we will miss him immensely. His departure is still sinking in as it will be for many of us and my thoughts are especially with his family at this time.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Hadyn's departure. My best wishes to Jan and all your whanau at a such a distressing time. Hadyn was an enormously likable man who gave tremendous service to the many organisations that he was associated with. I had the pleasure of working with Hadyn in my role as legal adviser to many sport and membership organisations. It was a standing joke between us that just about wherever Hadyn went as CEO we got the opportunity to work together, this included Softball NZ, Motel Association of NZ, Survey & Spatial and to a lesser extent at Landsar and Manawatu Rugby. Wherever he went Hadyn quickly adapted to the challenges facing those organisations and even where he was tasked with effecting significant change, he won the trust of people impacted by the changes through his excellent communication, calming manner and people skills (all no doubt things that served him well in his police career) and he inevitably was able to see his projects to fruition. He volunteered countless hours to lead projects to benefit the community such as the Alex Moore Park development project. Hadyn was always welcoming to everyone. He enjoyed a good discussion about anything but particularly sport where he had terrific recollection of events. He was a genuinely interested in others and he will be greatly missed by not only his immediate whanau but also the wider whanau of his friends and all the members of the organisations he served so effectively and selflessly.

I worked with Hadyn when he was CEO of Survey and Spatial NZ. He was hugely supportive to me as a fresh face, full of energy and always keen to have fun which was important given the organisation was undergoing a huge amount of change at the time.
Sincere condolences to Hadyn's family and friends.

I´ve known for more than 20 years in various work guises but most recently through Crimestoppers. I´m genuinely shocked to hear he is gone and way too soon. Haydn was a guy I loved doing business with, he was committed to the kaupapa, articulate and a man of huge integrity. We would do the business in five minutes and then talk family and sport for 55 minutes. One of the truly good humans. You will be missed mate.
