Of Greytown. On 29th November 2022 peacefully at home with family. Aged in his 96th year. Dearly loved husband of the late Mary O'Connell Nelson. Adored father and father-in-law of Terry (Wellington), Catherine and Steve (Wellington), and Robert and Lizbina (USA). Loved Grandad of Leslie and Russell (USA), Natalie and Graydon (USA), and Great-Grandad of Vincent (USA). Loved brother of Pat, Terence and Peter (all deceased). Foundation student of St Peter's College Epsom, Auckland. Senior Private Secretary to seven ministers of the Crown, five prime ministers and Counsellor and Assistant to two high commissioners (London). Senior Representative Government Superannuitants Association. Life Member Government Superannuitants Association. Life member of Bellamys. Remembering the fun times working with you at Consultus in the '80s - what a wonderful story-teller you were! A genuine man with a big heart possessing that unique blend of distinction and charisma. Rest in peace Gray; and my condolences to your family.

Gray will always be remembered as the "ultimate" public servant. His service to successive Prime Ministers stood out and I am sure that political and public service friends will share the grief of family at his passing. RIP
