Graham Charles: CNZM
Former Secretary of Defence, resident of Wadestown. Died suddenly on 19 March 2016, aged 74 years. Husband of Kate, father and father-in-law of Jacki and Chris, grandfather of Ben and Nicolas. Brother and brother-in-law of Lindsay and Lorna (Somerset), Alison and Evan (Mosgiel), and the late Marilyn (Dunedin). A memorial service will be held at Old St Paul's, 34 Mulgrave Street, Wellington, on Tuesday, 26 April at 11am. In memory of Graham, donations to retina.org.nz would be appreciated.

Dear Kate,
Our thoughts are with you and your family at this time of sad loss. It was my pleasure and privilege to work closely with Graham for the six years I held the Defence Ministerial portfolio.
Graham's contribution to New Zealand was considerable. He was a consummate professional whose judgement and advice I valued, and a man whose integrity I greatly respected and whose dry humour I certainly enjoyed.
