Our Marathon Man, astronomer, futurist and planet saver. Died peacefully in Wellington Hospital of pancreatic cancer aged 81 years. Beloved husband for 57 years of Elspeth, treasured brother of Margaret and brother-in-law of Roger, much loved father of Jeannie and James, cherished father-in-law of Harriet and Simon, dearly loved grandfather of Essie, Allegra, Frank, Joel, Alec and Henry. A celebration of George's life will be held at Lychgate Chapel, 306 Willis Street, on Thursday 16 February at 11am, followed by a private cremation. Messages for the family can be sent care of Lychgate Funerals, 306 Willis Street, Aro Valley, Wellington 6011. In lieu of flowers, donations to Wellington Hospitals Foundation.

A visit to Wellington was never complete without a visit to Cousin George and dear Elspeth.
George was a fabulous substitute "father of the bride" for myself, Zen will never forget his solo birthday trip and it was so nice to see you both on the Sunshine Coast - tackling dirt roads and pineapple plantations! - are among many other fond memories our family has of you both.
Always in our hearts, never forgotten, rest in peace.
