George GROOMBRIDGE Obituary

Fond memories of George when I was a Wairarapa College pupil, then on the staff and with amateur theatrical, and then latterly through the YMCA. A wonderful, respected community person who gave his all with everything he did.

So sad to hear of your sad loss I think he must have known some of the Sayer Family In masterton, My later Father was Len C Sayer he was in a band in masterton.

George your commitment you demonstrated has given us the vision toward work on building strong kids, strong families, strong communities in the Wairarapa. Your investment to into the YMCA and the Community Trust remains positive and strong.
Your belief and support as a professional staff member and board member will always be remembered and I have a duty to keep the your vision front of mind. Shirley you was alway there for George at the Y and I valued the joint efforts you both made to our community. Much aroha to the family, the joy of being part of your family has been a pleasure the sadness of losing a friend is so hard.
Rest you have served your community with pride

On behalf of the late Ken Masters and his family, I wish to send sincere sympathies to you all on George's passing. Dad always enjoyed their catch-ups whenever he and George saw each other and their friendship certainly lasted the passage of time. Treasure the memories

my deepest sympathy to Shirley and family on the passing of a great man, George Groombridge.. may he rest in peace.

Very sad to learn of George's passing as I had known him and Shirley along with daughters Wendy, Claire and Allison since I was a boy (along with Mum, Olive, Dad, George, twin Sister Janet and younger sister Margaret) living on the farm at Mahunga and they living in their family home built by George in Oxford Street , Lansdowne, Masterton. Last saw and talked with George and Shirley having a cup of tea at 10 o'clock Cookie Company a couple of years ago and had a great catch-up. Wonderful people whom I will forever remember. George now called to higher service where his beautiful soul will be preserved forever.

At our church service yesterday 27th March we had a time of `sharing´ where a member of our flock (David) told of being a youth group leader 55yrs ago (Baptist - Miramar) He had recently bumped into a man who he remembered as having been one of the youths. This guy also remembered David and said to him "YOU INVESTED IN ME ALL THOSE YEARS AGO" Thank you!!
This made me think of George and how HE invested in countless young people - BB and Bible Class over so many years.
I give thanks to GOD for giving us his servant George for such a long time.

My very real sympathy Wendy and the rest of the family. I remember George as a Boys Brigade stalwart in earlier years, a tower of strength and a godly gentleman. God bless!

A good man promoted to heaven, we will all miss him and his humour. Our sympathy to you Shirley and the family. We shared a lot in the Boys Brigade days and many men will remember the good input he had in their lives. You, Shirley and girls make a lot of sacrafices in the early years enabling George to be influential on many
