I had no idea that Gary had passed away, and only happened upon this today. Gary often ran with me around Wellington Harbour when I first moved to Wellington in 1980, and became a good friend. I enjoyed his wry humour and mildly eccentric ways. He was a very handy runner too!

Gary's contribution to children's athletics, particularly Karori Athletics will be sorely missed. Gary was a great bloke with a dry wit. Watching from the sidelines with Gary was always an amusing experience. Thanks for everything Gary. RIP.

Gary and I shared a flat in College Street and Stanley Ave Palmerston North back in the early 70's. Many a morning I was woken by Gary trying to kick start his old Jawa before heading of to milk the cows prior to his day at University. Alas I lost contact back then. I am saddened to hear of Gary's sudden death and wish to offer my condolences to his family and friends.
