Dear Mrs Wong, Kerry, Conrad, Darren, Margaret and families. So sad to hear your beloved Fred has died. He together with Alex and many many that have passed on made Taihape the unique and wonderful place to grow up. I remember Fred's mother, just. Yes hard working, very, but also extremely interested in the townsfolk. I find it very hard to return home and walk the streets of Taihape, as the sense of all that was and is now gone forever, is extremely painful. But there are precious memories that seem only to grow stronger. I have been thinking a lot about the shop, sadly now an empty section but what a hub it was. You all worked so hard for us. Thank you. I hope one day I can cross your path for a catch up. I lost my precious mum - Ngaere in Dec 16 and we took her back home to Taihape, now her resting place.xxxx Love Yvonne Hemingway

My condolences to the Wong family on this sad occasion. Like John Evans Fred was a schoolmate of mine and was always pleasant. I wish I had known he was at the retirement village here in Palmerston North as I would have loved to have visited him and talk about old times.

To Yvonne and Family,

So sorry to hear of your loss. Fred was part of my childhood and was always there when Don and I returned to Taihape. I remember him as a lovely smiley man. Always busy but never too busy to pass the time of day.
