Fay BASTION Obituary

3 January 1948 - 31 December 2023.

Fay passed away after fighting a fast and brutal battle with pancreatic cancer, three days short of her 76th birthday.

Fay was the eldest daughter of Les and Nell Irwin (dec) of Rockhampton, Queensland, and sister of Lesley.

The treasured wife of Terence for 53 years, dearly loved mother and mother-in law of Jeremy and Natasha, Melissa and Glenn, and Sam and Megan, and wonderful Nana of Lily-Rose, Carter, Chester, Graycen and Mackenzie.

Donations in lieu of flowers to Mary Potter Hospice and Wellington Free Ambulance online would be appreciated

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of Ward 7, Wellington Hospital and the District nurses and Mary Potter Hospice staff for their care of Fay whilst in hospital and at home.

A Vigil service will be held on Sunday 7 January at 7pm and a celebration of Fay's life will be held on Monday 8 January at 11am, both to be held at St Teresa's Church, 301 Karori Rd, Karori.

Rae Duff, GWWCT Academic Dress Convener

February 6, 2024

Fay was a valued member of Graduate Women Wellington Academic Dress Hire . She had suffered periods of health since she officially retired at the end of 2021 but continued on as a Casual until May 2023. Fay joined the Graduate Women Wellington Academic Dress team as a casual helper for the 2007 Victoria University of Wellington December graduation. At that time Marie Hampton, was the Branch Academic Dress Convenor and Cathie Dunning had taken over as Manager with Anne Marie Nicholl. Fay was soon made a Permanent Part time Regalia Assistant managing the maintenance of the regalia and training the student helpers at graduation time. She will be remembered for her masterly organisation and `can do´ attitude, caring of others, commitment to the organisation and great sense of fun. Fay is sorely missed by us all.

To dear Terry, Jeremy, Melissa, Sam and whanau.
We were so deeply saddened by Fays passing. She was such fun and always so very willing to do anything for anyone. What an angel she was - sent to St T´s school fair for which she and others worked so hard and of course to do many other things she put her hand to. We will certainly miss her. Much love and our deepest sympathy and prayers to you all.
Maree Z, Greg, Bex´s, Mel and whanau.

Your friendly wave as you drove up and down the neighbourhood,

Your famous lemons you gave and told us to enjoy G & T in the sun,

The Xmas and Anzac messages written in chalk, at the top of the cul- de-sac, when services couldn't be held. Some neighbours were outside having a silent vigil. You and Terry holding a candle.

Lest we forget
