I remember Esther as `Essie´ and she and her brother Ken, grew up in Miramar in a residence behind shops my grandmother (Phillips) built in Darlington Road at the `Terminus´. She married Arthur and they ran a rag trade shop in Newtown for many years and lived in Hataitai. When Essie contracted cancer and lost her hair through chemo radiation treatment, she used to visit my (then) Wife and I in Sydney, and bought her wigs. Arthur had also contracted cancer and to fight it, lived on a diet of carrot juice for ages, prior to his death. It was his ambition to own a Rolls Royce before he died and Essie helped him achieve this. A beautiful, lifelong love for each other, Essie & Arthur will be remembered.

To the Shaw Family
It's sad to hear of the passing of Essie. What a wonderful women and with a very strong constitution.
My thoughts are with the family

Essie Shaw was a memorable woman in my life growing up in Hataitai, Wellington. Joyce and Arthur Shaw were my friends in Matai Rd. I attended Essie's 90th birthday and shared some memories with her. RIP Essie and my condolences to the family. Thank you Doreen for coming round to tell me of Essie's passing. Lucille Cutten
