Eleanor TRUSLER Obituary

TRUSLER,
Eleanor Margaret:

26.03.1936 - 18.11.2021 Lower Hutt.
It is with great sadness that we farewell our beloved sister, aunt, friend and colleague. Eleanor was born in Invercargill in 1936 one of 4 children to Robert and Elizabeth Trusler. At the age of 18 she entered nursing at Kew Hospital in Invercargill. In 1960 Eleanor traveled to England where she trained in Burns and Plastic Surgery, starting work at Hutt Hospital in 1963 as Ward Sister of the Plastic Surgery Unit. Over the next 36 years she held positions of Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, Nurse Manager of the unit, Surgical Nurse Coordinator and lastly Manager of Outpatients. Eleanor received a Nuffield Travel Scholarship in 1978 which enabled her to study plastic surgery units in England, Scotland and Sweden. These skills she employed in the company of many ground breaking surgeons including Frank Hutter, Max Lovie and Swee Tan. In 1984 she launched the Burns and Plastic Surgery Course. She retired in 1999 after 36 years at Hutt Hospital and has many lovely younger colleagues who she "brought up." Eleanor had very special life-long friends especially Shirley and Sheila. Her interests included Gardening, Embroidery and Bobbin Lace making, where she enjoyed creating works of art and made many friends. Eleanor was involved with her local church St Aidan's, Normandale. They ran "Mainly Music" for 10 years, which was a great success in the community. She was also an amazing Aunt/Great-Aunt and as she delighted to tell us, a Great-Grand-Aunt, which she was very excited about. Eleanor is lovingly remembered by us all, particularly her family, Graeme and Pat Trusler (Brisbane), lain and Margaret Trusler (dec) (Ashburton), Marie and David Pearson (Lower Hutt) and 10 nieces and nephews and their families across N.Z. & Australia. A private family service has been held. A social gathering will be held at a later date. Grateful thanks to all those involved in Eleanor's outstanding care. Special mention to Doctors Paul Rowan, Kate Clarke, Mr Dhabuwala and the team, Johnny, Pascal and Ses (you're the boss now). We are very thankful to the many fantastic nurses at Hutt Hospital and Wgtn Cancer Unit especially our favourite, Winston. Thank you for the kind support received from exceptional Carers/District nursing staff and from everyone we met at Te Omanga Hospice. Messages may be sent to [email protected] or to "the Trusler family," c/o Gee and Hickton, PO Box 30 127, Lower Hutt 5040.

I worked as a Speech-Language Therapist at Hutt Hospital from 1973 to 1980 and again in 1981,1982, and 1983.( I worked with many children with cleft palates and some burns patients of all ages .) It was my first job and I was far from my home in the UK . I remember her as a kind and gentle soul who was always patient and calm. She was so caring and had a genuine concern for everyone - patients and staff alike. I never saw her getting ruffled. She was tall and slim ( from memory ) and always moved gracefully. I don’t think I knew she was a Christian then but she certainly lived her life as Christ would have wanted and her family must be so proud of her. I was very sorry to hear of her passing and I hope she didn’t suffer much before God called her home.My sincere condolences to you all.My love and prayers go out to you.Gillian Bell
