I remember Doug from when he came to the Wanganui Collegiate School to lead us on our confirmation class retreat, amongst other visits. He had a profound affect on my spiritual life, and I remember him with great fondness and respect for his fun filled Ministry, his caring attitude and insightful thoughts, ideas and affinity with we young men. It was his influence that has carried me on my spiritual journey through my life. RIP Doug, and condolences to the family.

It is with real sadness that I reflect on my memories of Mr Weaver. Uncle Doug as he allowed us to call him when we went on to secondary school. I was in his last class at Tawa Prmary School in 1962 before he left teaching to join the ministry. I have very fond memories of that final year at primary school and they were really enhanced by the wonderful teacher we had. Room 8 just buzzed and he set up a friendly rivalry with the other Form 2 class in Room 7 taught by Penry Manning. He even wrote a song for us which I still remember the melody of and many of the words. A great man who will be remembered fondly by all his past pupils. My condolences to his wife Norma and his children, grand children and great grand children. Your family tree may have lost a branch but his strength will support you all in the future
Regards. Claire Mowday. ( Doug would have known me as Claire Metcalf )

May I be permitted to correct an error in my previous posting honouring Douglas Weaver. I said he taught me 69 years ago. I should have said 59 years ago. Apologies to his son Guy for ageing him unnecessarily!

Doug was my uncle.godfather and my late mother's big brother. He was much loved, had a wonderful sense of humour and will be missed by all.

Over the years I have often thought back to my time at Linden Primary School where you taught me in Form 2 - 69 years ago! This was obviously before you trained as a Vicar. You made a lasting impression on me. I remember the time you got the class to attempt to write the Lord's Prayer correctly punctuated! From memory your first born Guy came that year.
Rest in peace a great teacher and a truly decent man.

It is with great sadness that Doug has passed away. It is many years since I attended St Pauls Waiwhetu Bible Class and was also a member of the church choir, attended Hutt Intermediate School with Craig and have many happy memories of my time at St Pauls.
Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with the family at this difficult time.
