Delys WILLANS Obituary

WILLANS, Delys Marie:
(54) A plucky bird knocked peacefully but prematurely off her perch by breast cancer. Quirky, much loved and spoiled partner of Harsa and fully-fledged member of the Pancha clan. Loved daughter of Harry and Dorothy Willans (both deceased) of Taranaki. Much younger sister and sister-in-law of Neil and Sandra Willans (New Plymouth) and Sally and Roger Menzies (Taupo). Wacky aunt to Mark, Erin, Julie, Kelly and Scott and her eight great nieces and nephews, all of whom she has enjoyed time with recently. "Camp Mother" to best friend Katrina Fowler's "Camp Leader". Delys has directed us to hold a celebration of her life with family, friends and colleagues. She would prefer all to wear cheerful colours (unless black for slimming); no need for suits and ties. In lieu of flowers Delys would love a donation to the Gillies McIndoe Research Institute so they can continue their valuable cancer research. A very big vote of thanks to all the folk who supported Delys through this - her many friends, colleagues and the wonderful medical staff encountered along her journey. Our celebration will be at the Bharat Bhavan Cultural Centre, 48 Kemp Street, Kilbirnie, on Tuesday, 6th March at 11.00am. This will be followed by a private cremation.

Delys was one of those amazing people who achieve a lot while appearing to do a little. I will miss her, and my thoughts are with you all. Rosemary

Dear Family, Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your 'plucky bird', Delys. We were friends at high school and yes, she was quirky and fun then too. One memory in particular that I love is one of Delys and I biking up Mangorei Road so that we could stay overnight in the caravan on 'The Ranch'. I last saw Delys almost 30 years ago, when she came to visit me following the birth of my first daughter, but I have often thought of her, and Delys came to mind just last week. The world will be a little less brighter without her, and I will be thinking of you tomorrow as you celebrate, with colour, her life. Kind Regards,

Murray Duke
