Jenni & Family, we were devastated to hear of David's passing. We will miss his hugging embrace & kiss. We always loved when David popped over to visit, he would just let himself in to the house and check in on me and the kids. He was like another grandfather to my two and he always said I was his other Daughter. Amelia and Lachlan remember coming over for lots of swims and chocolate fish. Also playing with Riley and Alexanders toys in the end room, especially the loud ones! He had the kindest, happiest soul. He was taken far too soon, but he had a lovely send off. Rest in Peace David, we will miss you dearly

From David's life in the Hokowhitu Dairy as a child through to his stirling work with Gold Coast Vets and his reviewing of the Renaissance Singers accounts I recall him as outgoing, affable, and a do-gooder. He recently arranged for the refurbishment of my stereo speakers at the Man Shed, always just there and so very helpful. I enjoyed the many games of golf in his congenial company.

It was a shock to hear of his passing - he will be surely missed but will have also left an amazing legacy with almost certainly a lot of stories.

So sorry to hear of David's sudden passing. Our deepest condolences to Jenni and the family. David was a loyal, caring friend with a deep commitment to his family, his friends, his community and his profession. David was as honest as the day is long and his cheeky sense of humour and charm made him an easy and affable companion. David loved being with people, he enjoyed them and knew how to draw them out of themselves and bring them into whatever activity was the current focus. He provided a form of social glue that you quickly learned to value. He was a superb organizer and always seemed to know the right people to get things done. We will miss him.

The menzshed would like to acknowledge the passing of David, and express our condolences to his family.
David was a large part of our group, he contributed much to our initial setting up and has been part of our ongoing operation with enthusiasm and energy.
We will miss his upbeat and positive input into all our activities.

David´s passing is extremely difficult to comprehend. He was always there. He was always cheerful. Nothing seemed to get him down. He contributed so much to the well being of others. He cared for all who were involved with him. He was outgoing and active.
He was a true friend. He was a family man, not just to his own family but to others as well. He was part of our family. That he was MC at the weddings of both of our daughters´ weddings is a mark of just how he and Jenni became part of our family. He always asked after our girls and their families.
We always looked forward to Jenni and David visiting Hawke´s Bay. There was so much to share, so much to talk about - our days at Massey, the families and what were our various children doing, plans for the year and yet no matter how much we talked there was still much that wasn´t discussed but we knew it would wait until next time.
We have lost a significant part of our world and our lives will be the poorer for that. A gap that no one will be able to fill for us.
To the Bateman family take comfort from the fact that he enriched the life of all he interacted with. Support each other as you cope with your loss. We will be thinking of you.

I'm devastated. David was always there for me. When I qualified as an accountant he attended the dinner with me. I will always remember the countless games of golf we had. David's kindness and support will be with me forever.
