Dan contributed positively to Tawa College in numerous ways. First, he was a highly effective and caring Truancy Officer who had a real heart for those who found school a challenge. He had a fair and calm way of dealing with students and their families and there would be a significant number of students who would be grateful for the nudge or gentle shove that Dan used to get these students back and engaged with school. There were many challenges in this role but Dan was positive and also encouraged staff including myself. Secondly he is the patriarch of a family who contributed much to Tawa College. His grandchildren were great role models in all aspects of school life. His whanau is Dan's legacy and show the courage and values that he showed throughout his lifetime. My deepest sympathy to his whanau

I was sorry not to be able to be present to celebrate Danny's life with you today. I have fond memories of him. He was my practicum supervisor for my first social work placement at Porirua Hospital more than 30 years ago. I appreciated his patience, humour and generosity of time. He taught me so much about how to be with people with different life stories than my own. It was always a pleasure to bump into him, although this became less and less frequent once I left the Bay permanently.
Sending you all peace and love at this time as you treasure and remember all the times with him.
