Damian KORTINK Obituary

KORTINK, Damian Joseph:
13.4.1966 - 6.5.2021
Died suddenly and taken from us too early. Loved son of Henk (dec) and Pat (dec). Cherished brother of Mark, Jayne and Cheryl. Treasured friend of Stu, Phil, Jess and Kristy. Loved uncle of Ben, Jeremy, Harriet, Emmet, Josef, Winifred, Casey and Connor. Great-uncle of Chloe and Sophie. Special thanks and our greatest respect and appreciation to Damian's work colleagues who tried to resuscitate him and watched over him; also to the Ambulance Service, NZ Police and Victims Support. We will forever appreciate the love and care you gave Damian. Farewell our darling DK. We are going to miss your big smile, ready song, wonderful wit, fantastic sense of humour, brilliant current affairs and historical debating skills, and love of the beauty in the simple things that make life special.
He whom we love
and lose
is no longer
where he was before.
He is now
wherever we are.
- St John Chrysostom
According to Damian's wishes a private family gathering will be held.

I ended up meeting Damian in Bergen Op Zoom in the Netherlands where I stayed for a year in 93/94.
As a fellow Wellingtonian we bonded straight away and hung out every weekend. I can still picture his big voice singing along to MTV. He taught me a lot about Dutch life and culture and had a great knowledge of world events and history. Years later I caught up with him a few times when he was working at the Dominion and we carried on where we left off with more great conversations and belly laughs.
My sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
He was taken way too soon.
RIP my friend.

I'll always remember your bellowing laugh, your whistle down the halls, and your Interesting stories and conspiracy theories, as well as your cup of teabags in the canteen and your newspapers in the locker room.

Damian was a wonderful neighbour. Whenever I saw him out working on beautifying our property, we would chat about politics and the state of the world. He was so knowledgeable.
He loved our neighbourhood and his house. He enjoyed the peace and quiet here with quality neighbours who looked after each other.
He was a treasure.
I am so sad he's gone. I couldn't wish for a nicer, kinder person to live next door to.
Thank you Damian for all you did to make our homes beautiful. It was a pleasure to have met you and to have known you. You really will be missed.
Much love to your family.

Rest in love my dear friend. Thank you for guiding me and teaching me all the tricks of the trade for photolithography. I will cherish all the funny stories about your crazy, fun life you had shared with me. I'm going to miss your random belts of song through our hallways, but most of all I'm going to miss having someone to talk to and give advice.

Your life was a blessing,
Your memory a treasure,
You are loved beyond words,
and missed beyond measure

Until we meet again my friend - R.I.P XXX
