Colleen DALTON Obituary

DALTON,
Colleen Mary (nee O'Brien):
10.6.1929 - 23.1.2020
One week after delivering a most eloquent eulogy to 200 people at Sophie O'Brien's funeral, Colleen Mary - the wife, sister, daughter, mother, auntie, mother-in-law, nana, neighbour and friend to so many slipped away from her family and into the arms of her beloved Doug. Her wit, wisdom, kindness and generosity will be missed by so many. Please join Mary-Leigh, Donna, Greg, Dean, Nic & Shelley and all her family to celebrate a life well lived. A Requiem Mass will be held for Colleen at 11.00am on Tuesday 28th January at St Mary's Catholic Church, 40 Seddon Street, Glenholme, Rotorua. Thereafter, interment in the Kauae Cemetery, Ngongotaha. In lieu of flowers, donations to St Vincent De Paul Society would be appreciated and may be left at the service. A rosary will be held at 7.00pm on Monday 27th January at her home in Rotorua for those that wish to attend.

Deepest sympathy to all the family. I have fond memories of Colleen when our families spent time together in Brooklyn. I'm thinking of you all at this sad time.

Hi there, My name is Jacqueline (Jackie Earle) and I am the daughter of Gladys (nee Dalton) and Henry Child. It's been many, many years since I've seen any of you cousins and have just heard of the passing of Aunty Colleen - so sorry to hear that. We lost Mum 3 years ago and Dad 18 months ago. It was a great comfort to Sandra and I knowing that our Mum and Dad were together again so I wanted to pass on my condolenses to you all at this sad time and hope you also find comfort knowing that your lovely Mum is now with your Dad again. I'm sure they will both be smiling down on you all, with love. Love from Jacqueline (Jackie) email - [email protected]).

My heart is heavy with the loss of a loved, close friend. Colleen was a second mum to me and has always been a major feature in my life; from early Whakatane days when I was four years old. Colleen's home was a happy haven where I spent much time. Colleen, and her beloved Doug, represented continuity and security. They watched me grow up, start work and get married and they featured strongly in my formative years. They were there when I needed a friend and confidante. In Rotorua, I would frequently drop in to 'have a cuppa' after work. In Wellington, we (as a young growing family), experienced loneliness and isolation, but we would find sanctuary in a loving and vibrant home. Colleen has been, and stays, a Mum' who gave me unconditional love, my whole life. God bless, Colleen, for I have been touched by an angel.
