(nee Haney):
Born 16 March 1939
Died 21 March 2022
Aged 83 years.
Claire passed away peacefully on 21 March 2022 in the loving care of staff at the Harbourview Rest Home in Papakowhai. She was the beloved daughter of Alban and Jane Haney, and the youngest sister to seventeen older brothers and sisters, all of whom are now waiting for her in heaven. Claire was the adoring mother of John, David, Walter and Lawrence, grandmother of Ambrose, Arielle, Te Toka, Marlon, Nova and James, and great- grandmother of Andi. Claire was also the beloved aunt to well over sixty nieces and nephews in New Zealand, the UK, Australia, Tonga and around the world. Claire fell in love with New Zealand upon arriving in 1957 and was a devout Roman Catholic who placed her family first. She raised her family in Porirua and was a committed early childhood teaching assistant for Barnardo's and Tairangi Kindergarten. Claire volunteered for the Holy Family Church in Porirua and St Vincent de Paul and was fiercely loyal to her home of Porirua, her friends and her family. Claire will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved her. A funeral mass for Claire will be held at St John of the Cross at Ascot Park, Porirua, at 11.00am on Friday, 1 April 2022, followed by her burial at Whenua Tapu. Due to covid-19 restrictions, vaccine passes will be required, and attendees will be kept to family and close friends of the bereaved. If you wish to attend, please contact any one of her sons to confirm further details. Messages may be left in Claire's tribute book at
