Catharine SHIELDS Obituary

I am thinking about various people from school and decided to check on Catherine. Shocked to see
she has gone so sad. Classmate wgton girls' college.

Catherine, I simply have no words. The last time you and I spoke was when your Dad, my Uncle Pat sent me my Father's guitar. My cousin how I wished I had known you more. Rest in peace.

I was deeply saddened to hear only today that Catherine has passed away. I came to know Margaret and Pat in the 1970s when Catherine and Philippa were still living at home as teenagers. The Shields were a very nice family, and very committed to the Labour Party and women´s rights and other important causes. Margaret´s maternal grandmother and my paternal grandmother were first cousins, so we always had that bond. As well, Margaret and I were parliamentary colleagues for a number of years. My deepest condolences to all family members at this sad time.

We have fond memories of teaching Phillipa to swim and our last visit with you Margaret and Catherine watching an All Blacks Rugby game at your home in Pukerua Bay and even a small earthquake thrown in to just make us feel at home. Pat our thoughts are with you...take care and keep in touch.

To Patrick and family. Catharine's death has been a great shock and my sympathy is with you. I have known mother Margaret since the 1960s and have met with Catharine growing up over the years. May she rest in Peace.

Patrick I would like to offer my condolences to you in the sudden loss of Catharine with Love Noeline Colman

Catharine was in my class at Hutt Valley High school 1977. After school exam results were out we (3 of us) went back to Catharine's mother's house to celebrate/commiserate. (I would say that Margaret tasted some watered down spirits after that little gathering) Needless to say a couple of silly girls giggled their way back home, singing and laughing on the bus.
