Brian WEBB Obituary

WEBB, Brian Donald:

02.10.1933 - 13.07.2022
Aged 88 years. Cherished husband and precious partner of Elizabeth (Bibi) - married 67 years. Father of Stephen (Kapok) deceased; and Sharon (Lot). Very, very special Grandad to Hannah and her husband Jonny. Brian's family, extended family and many, many friends, both here and around the world will miss him dearly. Most of Brian's working life was with the NZ Post Office - Radio and Telegraph. He was interested in everything; trains, trucks, and heavy machinery, ham radio and DXing, geography, history, world and local events, and especially all the people he met and chatted with. Amongst so many other things, he was a member of the Upper Hutt Baptist Church, and also volunteered for many years at Maoribank Primary School (Te Kura o Hau Karetu) helping children improve their reading and comprehension skills. He was a wealth of knowledge for the whole family when it came to helping with homework and essay-writing or answers to quizzes and crosswords. His letter-writing was legendary; never adopting email, he preferred to post his letters (a true Post Office man!) Anyone who wrote to him always got a reply. His letters were newsy, interesting and always special for every recipient. Brian did not want to have a funeral service - a humble man who didn't want any fuss; he instead wanted to pass quietly from this world to the next, where he will no doubt be getting everything organised, ready for everyone else to arrive!
No flowers please but feel free to make a donation in his name to a charity or special interest group of your own choosing.

Just looked you up and found you'd passed away sometime ago. Great friend, good talks and card playing on the morning trains into Wellington with my dad and others friends

Farewell old colleague.
Brian worked in the Custodian of Stamps Office at Post Office Headquarters with Leo Coleman when I knew him.
