I came across Brian many times while playing and directing tournament chess in the 70's, 80's and 90's. No venue was complete without Brian's array of chess books and other paraphernalia. He had this engaging glint in his eye and was very easy to talk to, even when you weren't purchasing any of his wares. I'll always remember him fondly.

Dear Colleen

I have known Brian since the early 1970s and in particular in the era of Fisher and Spassky World Chess Championships. Pencarrow and Upper Hutt Chess Clubs had enormous intake of youngsters into their clubs at that time and through the initiative of Brian, friendly visits between our clubs were developed in 1970s to give more competitive chess for future champions? In 1972 during Pencarrow visits to UH Brian introduced me to their future champion, Murray Chandler! For a long time Brian was also secretary of the Wellington Chess League.

Deepest sympathies to you and the family.
