So sorry to hear of Barry's [always Okka to me] sudden death, we crossed paths over the years.Memorable days in the Wairarapa when he was bizarrely turning a wee cottage into a log cabin. Turned up randomly when we took ownership of the hotel in Governors Bay and he was in Purau? Well read, opinionated but always a gentleman. Respect and much love to Suzy Wong

I lost touch with Barry about 15 years ago when, after his return from living in Christchurch, he shifted to the Kapiti Coast. Given his conservation interests, his move from the metropolis to a provincial area was to be expected. For part of the 1990s Barry worked in the Department of Labour (DOL) where he also served as a PSA rep in negotiations on the proposed DOL staff national salary collective. He contributed a couple of book reviews to the PSA Journal. Barry was widely read, an independent thinker, and had many interests. Condolences to his family.
