i got to know Anton well during my many years at the Upper Hutt Chess Club. I visited his home several times, usually for committee meetings, so got to know Norah as well. Anton was a very orderly man, and had boundless energy and enthusiasm for everything he did. I think he preferred chess administration to playing. Nevertheless, he proved a determined adversary for me in the many club games we contested. I will miss him greatly.

Anton was a warm, cheerful friend who I will greatly miss. I knew Anton for several decades through chess administration when I was President of Wellington Chess Club. Upper Hutt Club and Wellington Chess Club would share equipment for big tournaments. Anton was justifiably proud of his achievements organising the Upper Hutt Chess Rapid. Even today, on eBay, there are for sale envelopes of the 1979 Centenary Chess Congress organised by Anton. He and Norah always provided the best catering of any chess event. In addition to chess he was also very keen on dancing. At times in conversation he encouraged me and my wife to participate ( which I spared him as he was unaware of my clumsiness!). It was a privilege to have known Anton. He gave so much of his time and energy to others.
My sincere condolences to Norah and family

I remember working with Anton in the account's division at Royal Sun Alliance late 1998 to 2001. His dedication to doing complete and correct workings will always stick with me and his sense of humour. He amazed me with his running to over the age of 60 when I was giving up on it some 20 years earlier. We did have some good banter which is missed. My best wishes and condolences to his family.

I have fond memories of Anton during the early days at Rimutaka Harriers. He was always a gentleman and enthusiastic about his running at that time. RIP
