Dear Julia and family,
I have just heard that Tony passed away suddenly. What a shock to you and the family – and Carol and I. Our deepest sympathy to you and the family. It is many years since Tony and I worked in Singapore, but I never forgot our time together. He was rock solid, knowledgeable and a great guy. His potential in business was obvious and I admired his move into the emerging telecom sector. I followed his career over the years but regrettably we rarely crossed paths. I remember you all and I see over the years the family has expanded. No doubt they will be supporting you during this tough time. A saying from Dr Seuss is appropriate at this time “Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened.”
Kind regards David and Carol Leishman

I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear about Tony's sudden passing. Working with him at TNZI was a pleasure; his professionalism and passion led to many achievements and wonderful memories. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. My condolences to Julia and the family. May he rest in peace.

I met Tony whilst studying at Victoria University in the mid seventies and residing at Weir House. "Big T", as he was affectionately called, was a residence character, great conversationist, superb and fearless judo instructor, as well as friend and colleague.
I heard then of his earlier long trip and stay in Japan and the numerous events that he got up to. A colourful character from his early days.
I spoke to him occasionally since then, the last time in November last year.
Sorry for your loss Julia. A remarkable person was Tony.

When I was head of Global Wholesale at Telstra, I met quite often with Tony. The meetings were challenging as we each used our wits to score a point or two. Tony was very clever and extremely astute and often came out on top. Afterwards we would share a convivial wine and mull over the encounter. While always fighting for TNZI, it was clear Tony was also fighting for his country, so proud of his NZ as he was. One of his great attributes. He will be missed.

I worked at TNZI while Tony was the GM. He was a fantastic manager and had my greatest respect. For a senior manager he was easy to talk to and very down to earth. It's so sad to loose such a decent man so soon. My deepest condolences to Tony's family.

Tony and I first met during the 1980's, it was always a good relationship, and it was always great to see each other at different events around the region. We shared some very happy and exciting times together in our respective roles across the ditch! I will miss Tony but will always remember him and his great smile - my condolences to Julia and all the family at this sad time.

One of my greatest memories of Tony was when we had a hitch in signing the contracts for the Southern Cross cable so we went into the street in the middle of the night in Wellington and played touch rugby with a rather loose interpretation of 'touch'. I told Tony that I was the only person from Optus in New Zealand who had signing authority and if he broke me we couldn't sign the agreement - He just laughed raucously and we played on! A great man who will be deeply missed.
