Alison died in Copenhagen, Denmark on 16 August 2024, aged 83. Born in Island Bay, Wellington on 20 April 1941. Alison was a lesbian, feminist, political activist, teacher, writer and scholar. She was of Pākehā and Māori heritage, the loved daughter of Alan and Beatrice (Headifen) Laurie, sister of Ian Laurie and sister-in-law of Anne Martin, aunt of Nicolette Laurie and part of the extended Laurie, Headifen and Davison families. Alison was much loved and cared for until her death by her Danish partner Anna Krabbe Kristensen. She was appreciated and loved by her friend, collaborator and former partner Linda Evans. Alison was loved, respected and will be missed by her wide circle of friends, her sisters and comrades from lesbian, gay and feminist communities and organisations in Aotearoa and overseas, and students and colleagues in the former Gender and Women's Studies Programme at Victoria University Te Herenga Waka. Alison was one of academia´s great encouragers and she maintained an active interest in her former students. She was fierce and formidable, but kind and generous. I echo Judith Galtry´s sentiment.

Alsoin - thank you for being there for me and staying in contact with me since my women's studies days at Victoria University in the early 1990s. Thanks for always remembering my birthday and sending lovely messages from Denmark, for your support with oral history, and your laughter and animated conversations. Thanks for your feminism and outlook on life. Thanks for all the work you've contributed to queer history in Aotearoa. I'll never forget you. xxx

Farewell Alison. What an amazing character you were, truly larger than life! And what a big contribution you made to feminism, and more specifically lesbian feminism, in Aotearoa. Jude

Sincere sympathy on the death of a wahine toa in the lesbian and feminist community in Aotearoa. Immensely influential Women´s Studies lecturer and tutor, who profoundly changed my focus in university studies. I´m not alone in being positively impacted by the breadth of her knowledge.
