HAINES, Alice Margaret (née Marshall)

Alice Haines, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully with family at her side on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the age of 95 years. Alice was born in Tugaske, SK. She was the middle of 7 children born to Gordon and Clara Marshall. Playing soft ball for the Foxford ladies team, in her late teens, she met Robert (Bob) Haines from Shipman who provided transportation to the team in his old car. She married Bob on June 26, 1940 and they came to Calgary in 1943, while Bob was still serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force. There, Alice and Bob built three homes and raised three children. As a full time homemaker and mother, Alice volunteered with the Foothills Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and worked part time for the City of Calgary Elections Office. She was a housekeeper and cook extraordinaire, masterful sewer, crocheter, and knitter, and world traveler with Bob. She enjoyed social times with family, friends, and neighbors over coffee, card games and dinners. Alice is survived by her three children, Gordon Haines (Gail Hood), Glenda Wilson (Rob), and Larry Haines (Joan); her grandchildren, Everett Wilson, Jennifer Haines, and Johnathon Haines; great-grandchildren, Kylie Houston and Robert Houston. She is also survived by her younger sister Kathryn (Kitty) Tomlinson of Regina, Saskatchewan and sister-in-law Doris Marshall of Calgary as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Haines; sisters, Beatrice Garrison, Doris Moore, Eunice Smith; and brothers, Jack Marshall, and Bob Marshall. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through

Alice's Family would like to thank the management and staff of Extendicare Cedars Villa Maple Unit, and Home Instead Seniors Care for all of the excellent care that she received. In living memory of Alice Haines, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
