SMILER, Neil Lamar Gillen
18.02.1963 - 07.09.2018
Passed away on Friday
7 September 2018, on the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Australia, as the result of an accident, surrounded by his friends of the Famous Mixed Vege Rugby Club, Wellington. Neil was the cherished and much loved youngest son of the late Thomas Smiler Jnr and Julia Smiler (nee Keelan). Loved brother of Puke Peawini (dec), Witi, Kararaina (Caroline), the late Thomas, Tahui Pare (Polly), Viki, Derek, and Gay. Brother-in-law of Sally (dec), Jane, Iwi Hoia (dec), Barney, Dave, Kani, Hore (Larry), Cynthia, Mele and Julianne. To all his nieces, nephews, mokopuna, and whngai, he was a Legend, a kind and gentle soul. When we think of you we realise we have alot to be grateful for and we will miss you our wonderful brother. Rest now with mum and dad, until we meet again. Neil will arrive in Wellington on Friday 14 September 2018 and a service will be held at Haven Falls Funeral Home, 42-50 Burden Avenue, Wainuiomata, on Saturday 15 September at 10.00am. We will then be travelling with our Taonga to Takitimu Marae, Lavenham Road, Gisborne, for his tangihanga on Sunday 16 September at 10.00am, followed by the funeral service at 1.00pm, after which he will be laid to rest with his tupuna at Tawhiti Kahu Urupa, Waituhi. Then Hakari at Takitimu Marae.
