Murray was my second cousin. His grandmother Eliza Jane Lenton Hanlon nee Gray and my grandfather Henry Lenton Gray were siblings. I spoke to Murray last year about the Lenton name [we both share it as a middle name] and the whereabouts of the Gray bible. Murray sadly admitted that he knew few details of his family's history and as a youngster did not particularly like the Lenton name. When I explained the significance his interest in family history seemed aroused. Murray's parents George and Nell frequently visited Greytown and I remember visiting them in Bath Street Levin. When Nell moved into the rest home at Waitarere, my mother use to visit her. Condolences from the greater Gray Whanau. Arohanui Neil Montgomerie-Crowe, Greytown

Hard to believe! We were talking with him at Foxton on Saturday as we were both picking up garden mix. Condolences to the family. Murray was certainly a well-known identity in Levin.

A good and reliable friend for over sixty years. He has been instrumental in keeping the bond between the Eastbourne lads alive and strong and we will remember him especially for that. Only last Wednesday we came together in Waikanae for another occasion to which he contributed so much. We will miss him greatly and we send our heartfelt sympathy to you Susanne and family.
