Judith, children and Gardiner family. I was just shocked just now to read of Lou's early death - I hadn't picked it up from other news sources last month (Whangarei too far away, perhaps). My sincere condolences to you. My connection with Lou was from St Pat's in the late 60s, including a hitch-hiking trip we made together around the Sth Island in January 1970, with others from St Pat's. In my mind, too, there was a connection around Timor Leste; I have been involved in Timor solidarity work since 1983, including on the ground there in 1996 during the occupation and in 1999 during the militia uprising and referendum - so kept a close eye on Lou's service there in the 2000s. I'd always thought there would be a time for a chinwag on both sets of experiences - not to be. He was a man with real integrity. My sympathies to each of you, as you live with his memories.
