Douglas Saxon (Doug):
Emeritus Professor, MSc (NZ), PhD (Cantab), HonDSc (Geneva), FRSNZ, HonFGS, CNZM.
Died on December 23, 2016, at Highview Rest Home and Hospital, Dunedin; aged 92 years. Loved husband of Anne (nee Tarrant), loved father of Bernard, Roderick, and Jane, loved father-in-law of Elena, and Tim, and loved grandfather of Alice, Lizzy, Douglas, Dmitrij, Sam, and Connor. He was the son of LD and Vera Coombs of Dunedin, and brother of Penelope and Jack. Douglas headed the Geology Department at Otago for 34 years. He was an old boy of Kings High School and served as inaugural chairman of the schools board of governors from 1979. The family would like to thank the staff of Highview for their loving care. A memorial celebration of Douglas' life will be held in Dunedin, on a date to be confirmed, in February 2017. Messages to 6 Tolcarne Avenue, Dunedin 9010.
